Day by day itinerary of the Eagle festival combined tour.
Day 1: Ulgii city. 23th Sep
Come to Ulgii city and meet our guide and driver. Transfer to the hotel/ger camp and have a lunch.Visit the local museum of Ulgii town with comprenhensive information of flora and fauna of Bayan Ulgii aimag as well as it colourfull traditional costumes. (Ger is the Mongolian word for "Nomad Tent". )
Day 2: Altai Tavan Bogd Ranger station 24th Sep
In the far western corner of Mongolia lie the Altai Mountains, a stunningly beautiful region of snow capped peaks, immense glaciers and large alpine lakes. We would start our trip heading West by 4x4 jeeps. On the way you have chance to see remote mountain country, whencrossing big passes. Along the way we marvel at the Yamaat petroglyphs, a recently uncovered site in remote terrain featuring more than 1O thousand images of hunting and combat scenes, mythological figures, and symbolic sacred art. In the evening we would visit a kazakh Eaglehunter and get in to the Eagle hunting world. Overnight in tent.
Day3- Altai Tavan Bogd Base Camp. 25th Sep
This is where our trek begins. After a big western style breakfast, you will get prepared for the trek while our camel crew loads up our camels. We would cross a few rivers as we follow a trail to Altai Tavan Bogd (ATB) Base camp. In this remote corner where Mongolia, China, and Russia meet, we discover a beautiful swath of untouched wilderness, topped by the 14,000-foot peaks of Tavan Bogd National Park. We trek for 12 km today to the National Park Base camp at the foot of the magnificent Altai Tavan Bogd Glaciers. The glacier is at the foot of Khuiten Peak (4374m) the highest point in Mongolia. Nearby, Nairamdal Peak marks the triple border point common to Mongolia, Russia and China. Overnight in tent
Day 4- Tsagaan gol 26th Sep
Heading downhill we will trek to Tsagaan gol valley following the white glacier river and beautiful deep canyons, Near the tuvan gers we will cross the glacier Tsagaan gol river trough bridge. Until 2011, we had to cross the river by horse; Actually that was an exciting river crossing with horses and camels. We then head downriver and set up camp in a lush green pasture at the foot of glacial bowls. In the evening we would visit a local Tuvan family. This very little population of Tuvan people are keeping their old tradition as it was. They believe on Shamanism. According to situation we would have chance to meet a Tuvan Khomii throat singer.
Day 5 – Khoton Khurgan Lakes 27th Sep
Today we are going to drive to the southern part of Altai Tavan Bogd National park which is one of the most beautiful place in Western Mongolia. This is the region where the Khoton and Khurgan lakes are. On the way to the destination we would stop in Mogoit valley to see the ancient stone man, balbals. We would pass trough some high passes where you have chance to landscaping. We would set up our camp on lake shore of Khoton lake, on the back a beautiful snow caped mountain range which has the border line on top. By evening we would visit local Kazakh family and observe the local nomadic life. Overnight in tent.
Day 6- Jagashtai (Horse riding day) 28th Sep
Today we gonna ride horse, after a little riding lesson you would saddle up on your horses. Comparing to the western or Australian horses, Mongolian horses are very easy to control. We would ride 16km along lake shore, on some places trough forest. We would cross some smaller and a bigger river on horse back. Our crew would set up the camp for us on a beautiful spot facing to the lake. This is going to be the last camping night of our tour in Altai Tavan Bogd National Park.
Day 7- Ulgii camp 29th Sep
Today we will be heading to Ulgii following the Khovd river downhill. On the way we will stop in Tsengel Soum which is a small village center. After driving a full day we will get to Ulgii camp. The first thing which you want would be the hot showers.
Day 8-9: Eagle festival +BLD 30th Sep and 1st Oct 2017
It is going to be the most exciting 5 days. Are you ready?
After the breakfast at our hotel, we would move to Hunter’s hill at 10:15am in the morning which is the place where the eagle festival is going to be held. At this place we would give you the printed copy of itinerary of the eagle festival.Also we would give some information about the eagle festival just before you have your breakfast. At the hunter's hill you will not have interpreter or guide with you all the time. Because there is going to be only one guide for the group. But if you need assistance anytime you can go to our gers and call the guide on the radio. He would be right there. We would keep update you with the events happening there.
We have a ger (Ger means Nomad tent ) at Hunting hill, so anytime when you want, you can use the ger to rest or to get warmed up and have tea and coffee. We would have lunches in this gers.(Like the picture on the right) Dinners are in the town, in a restaurant. Let us know in advance if you need a private interpreter for these 2 days.But we do not recommend, coz just no need.
Day 10: 2nd Oct 2017- Experiencing Nomadic culture and HUNTING with EAGLE! +BLD
Today we are heading to an eagle hunter who lives in the countryside. We would drive through beautiful mountainous area via beautiful Tolbo lake to the destination. We would have some stops to get pictures of beautiful landscape pictures and the nature. On the way we would visit a shaman throat singer and we would stop at Tolbo village center, then to the eagle hunter. After the lunch, we would visit eagle hunter�s family where you would have chance to get in to the nomadic culture and would have deep knowledge of hunting with eagles. We would have time to shoot photos of beautiful Sair mountain (13000ft) from our camp and may have chances to ride horses close to our campsite. After the dinner we would have a small party!
Day11: 3rd Oct 2017- True life Hunting with EAGLE +BLD
More exciting activities are waiting for you! After a big western style breakfast in our ger restaurant we would go for eagle hunting. It is like safari, that we would use our cars to get some mountains and on some places we would hike with the eagle hunter. Our eagle might catch fox, rabbit or other smaller animals. It is very rare that eagles catch wolf. We would drive up on the mountains while we would have chances to photograph incredible landscape photos. After the hunting we would have a bit late lunch and would drive futher to Khovd city which is gonna be 3 and half hours from the place where we are. We gonna stay at hotel for this night and would be ready for next day's flight back to UB.
Day 12: 4th Oct 2017- Departure to UB
On Early morning after breakfast we would be ready for Departure. Transfer to the airport and fly 3hrs to Ulaanbaatar.
Or the other options.
o We could support by transport to go to Ulgii or to UVS (Ulaangom) for an reasonable additional cost.
